M.L. Liebler

The Early Days of Silence and Darkness

In the early days
Of silence and darkness,
I traveled alone
Across the quiet fields
Of my heart.

I was alone--
A sullen moon tossing
Shadows of time
Across the distant
Doors of my past.

Everyday, I awoke
Cautious in a loveless world
That longed to be
Filled with something
As simple as everydayness.

Today, I catch myself
Catching myself outside
In the outside where I
Meet myself near the corner
Of silence and broken heart
